Parrot Bebop 2 Power Review - What's The Difference

Parrot Bebop 2 Power

The French drone company has now unveiled the Parrot Bebop 2 Power, which includes upgraded abilities that will entice pilots and videographers alike. We have to agree on one thing – Parrot is among the industry-leading drone brands at the moment.

The Bebop 2 Power has had a significant overhaul of its software and hardware, but the main selling point, as the name would probably suggest, is the power its batteries can hold.

Most drones on the market now do not offer a long flight time, with most not quite lasting half an hour. This is also true for the original Bebop. With the release of the new Bebop 2 Power, there is a flight time of up to 1 hour with optimal flying conditions.

That’s right. Just as the name indicates, the new Bebop 2 Power comes with more battery power, but it isn’t in the way that you would think. This new drone actually comes with two batteries in the package.

When purchasing it, don’t have the expectation of 1 hour of uninterrupted flight because you will need to switch out batteries mid-flight. With each battery offering around 30 minutes of flight when in optimal flying conditions, that’s still a pretty impressive time to be in the air.

Parrot Bebop 2 Power Design

First off, the Bebop 2 Power comes in a new two-tone black finish, which is sure to bring a smile to the Bruce Waynes of the world.  The drone's structure is a blend of carbon fiber and Grilamid. The latter is a lightweight plastic used in the automative industry and is renowned for its extreme resistance.

Parrot Bebop 2 Power Battery

Like its predecessor, the Bebop 2 features a slender design, no moving parts besides the propellers, and the same 180-degree fisheye camera.

Included in the box are:

  • 1 Parrot Bebop 2 Power
  • 1 Parrot Skycontroller 2
  • 1 Parrot Cockpitglasses 2
  • 2 Power batteries
  • 4 propellers
  • 1 charger + cable + 4 plugs
  • 1 assembly tool
  • 1 USB flash drive
  • 1 smartphone and tablet support
  • 1 quick start guide

A larger 2,700 mAh battery makes the Bebop 2 Power a bit heavier (100 grams heavier to be precise), but the body remains very compact and lightweight. One of its more appealing aspects is the fact that it easily fits into a backpack—especially if you’re flying with just a phone and can skip the bulk of the controller.

Parrot Bebop 2 Power Battery

The Bebop 2 Power claims to have an hour’s worth of fly time. In the world of commercially available drones this is miles ahead of the competition, but it does come with a catch: it’s not one hour of uninterrupted flight.

Parrot Bebop 2 Power Battery

A single battery will last for half an hour, and you get two batteries in the pack, so you can fly for an entire hour by changing the battery over mid-session. While that might feel like a bit of a cheat, it does mean you get more time in the air.

To be fair, half an hour is already a fairly impressive flight time, as most of the drones on our best drones list wouldn’t manage to stay airborne that long, but the addition of a second battery means you can now spend double the time capturing beautiful Full HD footage.

Parrot Bebop 2 Power Camera

As far as the camera is concerned, there haven’t been any improvements from the looks of it. Parrot Bebop 2 Power sports custom-made wide angle lens with an advanced anti-distortion system, just like the original. 3-axis digital stabilization is here as well and it does a great job in terms of reducing video shakiness and aliasing.

Parrot Bebop 2 Power Camera

When it comes to the actual imaging sensor, we are talking about a 14MPX 1/2.3” camera that supports 1080p video recording at solid 30 frames per second. Additionally, this camera can also capture aerial photos (who would’ve guessed, eh?) in JPEG and, surprisingly, Adobe DNG RAW format.
The latter will be especially useful to professionals who will have an easier time tackling post image production. There is also a new palm take-off mode and a touch & fly piloting method that lets you use the app to direct the drone to a specific location.

→Parrot Bebop 2 Power: SHOOTING MODES:

  • Cameraman: this allows you to automatically keep the subject in the frame while you focus on flying the drone.
  • Magic Dronies: based on GPS and visual recognition to keep you in the frame while the drone flies automatically. The modes are Orbit, Tornado, Parabola and Boomerang.
  • Follow me: based on GPS and visual recognition to keep you in the frame while the drone flies automatically.
  • Auto shots: four pre-programmed flying movements to capture landscape views. The four effects are 360, Reveal, Epic and Rise.

Parrot Bebop 2 Power Speed

If you like to get first person action when flying a drone, the Bebop 2 Power features a FPV headset. This allows you to attach your smartphone, of course once you’ve downloaded the app, and see the view from your drone’s perspective. This is great for those that enjoy seeing their flight in action versus videoing their experience and watching at a later time.

Parrot Bebop 2 Power

Also if you like to video sports, the new Bebop 2 Power features an impressive speed. This new drone can travel up to 65 km/hr. That’s perfect to catch incredible plays on the sidelines of football games or record plays in action at various sporting events.

ALL THAT IS NEW ABOUT THE PARROT BEBOP 2 POWER

The new Parrot Bebop 2 Power is small and easy to carry drone at 1.15 Lbs (525gr.). It should also prove to be very durable thanks to its fiberglass and Grilamid® construction. It can be flown with only the FreeFlight Pro app or with the Wi-Fi Parrot Skycontroller 2.

With the remote control the drone can be flown up to 1.24 miles away.
  • Longer flight time: The new quadcopter gets 30 minutes of flight time per battery and up to 60 minutes with the two included high-capacity batteries!
  • New photography capabilities: Built-in artificial intelligence and specialized modes let you shoot professional-looking photos and videos.
  • New piloting modes: Customize your flying experience with the high-speed Sport mode or the slower-but-steadier Video mode.
  • New take-off modes: Launch the quadcopter by throwing it in the air or taking off from the ground.
  • More comfort for immersive flights: The brand-new Parrot Cockpitglasses 2 FPV goggles are compact, foldable and lightweight, giving you an immersive view from the pilot’s seat.
  • Long-range control: The Parrot Skycontroller 2 controller gives you precise control for your piloting experience, with a range of up to 1.24 miles (2km).

All-new design: The Parrot Bebop 2 Power has a deep matte-black finish with distinctive gloss accents for a more stylish look.

PARROT BEBOP 2 POWER VS DJI SPARK

I'm sure you want to compare the Parrot Bebop 2 Power with DJI Mavic Pro, Taht's why i’ve decided to give DJI Spark the honor since the price gap is much smaller.

With that said, both of these models provide great value for money but it’s the details that matter… And as far as I can see, Parrot Bebop 2 Power could be the superior between the two.

Both drones posses FHD-capable cameras with 2-axis and 3-axis gimbals. Obviously, image stabilization does a great deal of work for both these models. Same goes for the features which are among their most important aspects in the long run.

Parrot Bebop 2 Power Price

About price, DJI is 699$ plus of 449$ for the Goggles, that is 1,148$ against 649$ for getting the same features! Honestly, who buys a Spark for doing FPV and selfies either doesn't care to his wallet or likes to be ripped off because the difference 499$ is HUGE!

I believe you all know which of these 2 drones has won the matchup… Yes – it’s Parrot Bebop 2 Power! πŸ™‚

  1. Have you actually tested the drone to confirm the factory published capabilities or is your opinion based on their info?

  5. I purchased the Bebop 2 last week and love it. I am still learning all the capabilities and not an expert by any means. My negative (very minor) I have is that I cant find the replacement blades at any of my local drone shops. I have read that you only want the O.E M blades. Do you have a answer to where you can find them besides on Amazon? I even looked on the Parrot site and didn't see them offered. Great review!
